The Fanni

An iconic haircut, which received both creative and commercial global acclaim and has now been documented for historical reference.

THE STORY

The renowned agency Models 1 had approached and commissioned Gianni to cast his eye on an unknown girl called Fanni Bostrum. She was not a conventional fit for a model at 5ft 5in with scruffy long hair and a tomboyish attitude. But after his signature consultation, Gianni sensed the depth and versatility of her character and created a cut that was both bold and strong, yet retained a softness where the hair could move, allowing her to express herself differently on fashion shoots. ‘The Fanni’ became a global success and made international headline news on television, print and radio in the US, Asia and Europe. Gianni was acclaimed in publications from Vogue and Harper's Bazaar to The Sunday Times.

SANDOKAN

A unique approach to taking the art form of cutting hair outside the box.

It began with an idea of creating shapes into a horse using the barbering tools Gianni had grown up with. He then began deep research into the horse world studying breeds and their behaviour, hair type and growth patterns.

After a year of casting across the UK, he finally met the right horse owner, an inspired horse whisperer who suggested Sandokan. Gianni commissioned Tim Walker and was responsible for the production, art direction and publication in i-D magazine.

Gianni has collaborated on creative projects that have been celebrated across many different platforms including a prestigious exhibition of his work at the EIFF in Edinburgh opened by Prince Charles HRH, and being invited as a guest speaker at Apple and Nike to publications, such as his first book “Hair”.
